Upton-upon-Severn Folk Festival 2017.

Just a short note to thank the Poppy Folk Club regulars who joined us at Upton upon Severn Folk Festival for this, the fourth time the Club has been asked to run a folk club night at the festival. This year the Folk Clubs were held in the town library and, despite the slightly remote and hard to find location and the absence of a bar (!) the venue worked well. We had a good turnout of Festival-goers and none of the rowdiness that sometimes creeps in when the clubs are held in more 'public' buildings.

This year, the Poppy organisers were joined by Tom and Juliet, Marc Block, Pat Shore, Ian Price, Yvonne Dreyer and Steve Cooper, and Mick and Val Scott. Phil ran the sing-around in his usual excellent style, and pretty much everyone got the chance to perform twice. We finished with a rousing rendition of 'John Ball' - the first song ever sung at the Poppy Folk Club (in May 2011).

A big benefit to being part of the 'Poppy on Tour' troupe is that we all get to enjoy the rest of the festival completely free from obligation or cost. It's a lovely, colourful festival in a lovely setting. Not a huge 'Big Stars' festival, but with a good number of well-known acts performing, more morris dancing than you can shake a stick at, and singing and music sessions around every corner. As usual, some artists who have played at the Poppy Folk Club were performing at the festival, including Nick Dow, Granny's Attic, Pete Grassby, Sarah Matthews and Doug Eunson, Cupola:Ward, and Belshazzar's Feast!
