Singaround and Music Session
Sunday September 16th 2012
The sing and play nights always bring out a few surprises and special performances, but this one, straight after the August break, was something really special. We had a great turnout, some new faces, and some of our regulars showed off what they'd been working on over the summer. With over 30 people in the room I can't mention everyone, but the standout performances for me were a totally mesmerising version of 'False, False have you been to me' by Ally, Lynn Goulbourn's own song 'Gone are the Cobles', a terrific version of Andy Cutting's 'History Man' by Claire Halliday, and a spur-of-the-moment collaboration between Lynn and Ally singing 'Bonny at Morn'.
We were treated to songs or tunes from Dave Collins, Andy & Dave, Ruth King, Dave Walters, Annie Smith, Fred, Rosie, Ann, Harriet, Lyn Cooper, Juliet, Julie and Phil, as well as a couple of self-penned satirical songs from James Strawbridge and a couple of nice songs from Carrington Folk Club's Phil Harrison (including Steve Tilston's version of 'The Fisher Lad of Whitby' - one of my favourites).
Special thanks should go to Phil Preen for somehow managing to get round the room almost three times - a really classy job with so many performers in the room. One of the best music and song sessions we've had so far!
