Songs and Music night - October 2017.

A very interesting sing-around night at the Poppy this month, with quite a few new faces and several people visiting for the first time to sit and listen - which is lovely! We knew there was a likelihood that some regulars might be missing - the Young'Uns were singing elsewhere in Nottingham - so it was nice to have a good turnout of newcomers.

Among the new faces were Ian Buchanan, a good singer who played dobro and mandolin (and, we suspect, much more!); Samir Goswami (guitarist and singer); Helen Morris & Chris Morris (from Sullivan's Sword Dancers) who sang nicely and played guitar and flute; and Michelle (a Ukulele player who joined in with some of the tunes but didn't perform solo on this occasion).
Several people came to watch and listen, and when we announced that we were going to be running some Village Carols workshops it was good to see that several of them put their names down!

Great to see Jill & Bernard Blackwell paying a return visit to the club - they have been great supporters of the folk clubs in the area for many years and are always top notch (their 'My Johnny Was a Shoemaker' was excellent!).

And, despite the competing attraction of the Young'Uns, we had a good numbers of Poppy regulars who entertained us all : Phil Preen, Claire Halliday, Dave Walters, Juliet Woodin, Marc Block, Yvonne Dreyer, Jenny Bell, Wil Walker, Trevor Marriot, Ian Price, and Pat Shore.
