Singaround and Music Session
Sunday June 8th 2011
It's all first nights at the Poppy so far! After the success of our first concert, our June meeting saw the first of our sing-around and music nights. It was a nervous time for the club - with no previous form to attract people would anyone turn up? We need not have worried. As the evening progressed, so the circle of chairs got bigger and bigger, with a lovely selection of singers, musicians and folks who were happy to just listen and see what we were like. Everyone had the chance to shine if they wanted to, and we had a great selection of songs ranging through traditional, self-penned, humour, and even a Monkees song. Others chose to play us a tune, and those who were not quite confident enough to play solo had several opportunities to join in with a couple of sets of tunes.
The best thing about the evening was that it did just what we had hoped it might - it attracted local singers and musicians, plenty of new faces, and a chance for talented people to get together and perform. To everyone who came - whether you sang, played or listened - thank you all very much. See you next time!
