It was lovely to get back into the upstairs room at the Poppy & Pint for our first 'live' indoor singaround since February 2020! There were a few things we had to do differently, but it very quickly felt like we'd come back home!
We restricted the event to 30 people, and we ended up with 29 - pretty well perfect! With all the doors open the temperature was just right - no woolly sweaters were required 😀
Ian Price ran the evening well and everyone who wanted to had at least two songs or tunes. We had a good mix of regulars, occasional visitors and newcomers as well as several people who just came to listen and enjoy the music.
In the new (and nearly new) faces list, we were treated to some brilliant melodeon playing from Bruce Lambelle-Rudd (who has just graduated from the Newcastle Folk Music degree course), a couple of good songs from Cheryl, a couple of rousing chorus songs from Dan Forest (inspired to sing after being at a Young'Uns after-concert session), and a very nice piece by Stanley - one of the bar staff who had 'just popped up to listen'.
The 'occasional' team included a welcome return by Jill and Bernard Blackwell; Andy Vee (Corndodgers); Malcolm Goodall; David Nicholson-Cole; Nigel Bull; and Dave Quick & Andy Cooper. And we also have to thank our regular visitors and the organising team for their contributions: Trevor Marriott, Jenny Bell, Samir Goswami, Rick Dizon, Juliet Woodin, Dave Walters, and Ian Price. It was particularly lovely to hear Samir and Rick playing together - Poppy seems to generate this sort of collaboration 😊
