Christmas at the Poppy Folk Club now follows a 'traditional' pattern, with most of the evening being an opportunity for our regular club night performers to sing or play a spot on the stage. Anybody who puts their name down gets a song or two, a tune, a story, or whatever showpiece they would like to perform. It's a popular formula, and this year's line-up featured a wide variety of fare, with Christmas songs and carols, a funny story, poetry, tunes and seasonal medleys - mostly with either a touch of humour or a dash of seasonal spice.
The performers included: The Poppy Carollers, the Trent Navigation Company, AJAR, Dave & Andy's Brass Duet, Rosie & Val, Dave and Julia Taylor, Trevor Marriott, Dave Collins, Ian Price, Claire Halliday, Mark Steel (from Canada), Pat Shore, Wil Walker, Marc Block, Brian Franks, Jim Helliwell, James Strawbridge, Yvonne Dreyer, Jenny Bell, and Bee Powell.
The evening was punctuated by a mince pie break, before The Poppy Morris Dancers performed their annual festive dance. Then, after a full second half, the night was drawn to a close with a selection of carols to send the assembled revellers off to their beds.
