The first folk club I ever went to was at The Pack Horse in Loughborough. I have also been a regular at various clubs and sessions in and around the Loughborough area. I still regularly attend The Grand Union Folk Club at The Soar Bridge Inn at Barrow upon Soar and I lead the music sessions there once a month.
I discovered the world of folk music when I was in the Sealed Knot Society and I started looking for some different things to sing in the pub after a battle.
I play tin whistle and anglo concertina. I also play percussion in The Bang On The Wall Band which Martin Wildig and I formed back in 1997. As well as playing for barn dances and ceilidhs I also sometimes work as a dance caller.
I am foreman (dance teacher) for both Sergeant Musgraves Dance and Anstey Morris Men. I have also in the past been bagman (secretary) and squire (titular head) of Anstey. My first dance side though was The Hinckley Plough Bullockers who meet once a year in January. I also dance from time to time with The Bunnies From Hell.
My working career has been as a software developer, most recently as Software Manager for Lacerta Technology Ltd.. I am currently only working part-time for Lacerta, so I also work developing web sites and other small software projects.
