I discovered folk festivals whilst Morris Dancing (Aidleys, Lady Bay Revellers and Sgt Musgraves Dance) and now go to many folk concerts and several festivals each year.
Then I discovered my knees didn't hurt if I sang (!) so I have been attending various singarounds at Folk Clubs since about 2005. I particularly enjoy English Traditional Music especially the epic child ballads and the songs that have come down to us from collectors such as Lucy Broadwood and Cecil Sharp. I also love songs written in the tradition by contemporary writers and the innovative approach that many of the new younger performers are bringing to the tradition.
There are such good songs out there, both old and new. Hunting them down and bringing them to life through my own singing is a most enjoyable hobby.
